Gray - 23J Paystation
Gray - 23J Paystation
History
Payphones have existed for 114 years. However, before their invention, customers used telephone stations. These were supervised by toll collecting telephone company attendants who then placed the customer's call.William Gray invented the unattended coin-operated payphone and made it available for purchase in 1891. Gray's phone was "post-pay" machine; it collected coins after customers made their calls. By 1913, the three-slot payphone had replaced Gray's original version. The newer phone had coin slots for nickels, dimes and quarters, and it required users to deposit money before placing calls. In 1965, the more modern single-coin payphone ended the three-slot model's 52-year run
Restoration
Cords – The phone has been outfitted with brand new cloth covered cords that are made in house on the same type of equipment originally used by the phone companies. They look amazing. You can choose from either black or brown cloth cords. The line cord has a modular connection to facilitate a modern connection to your wall jack.
Shell – The housing has been stripped down and sandblasted using a glass grit and powder coated in a semi-gloss black finish. This closely resembles the finish on the original.
Handset – The F1 Handset has been ultrasonically cleaned to get all imbedded debris out. It is then sanded through a multi-step restoration process which includes sanding with 400, 800, 1000, 2000 grit and buffed back to its beautiful original shine.
Subset – We have included an original 684 subset. Due to availability, the case may be a reproduction.
The phone goes through extensive testing before to ensure it is in perfect working condition prior to shipping
