This is a black bakelite "Beehive" magneto telephone, made by the Leich Electric Company of Genoa, Illinois. Collectors call it the Beehive for its tall, stacked and ribbed bakelite base. The base holds the hand-crank magneto generator and the ringer, beneath Leich's square-top handset housing. This set has no dial: you turned the crank to signal the operator, and there's a "TEL. NO." number card where the dial would sit.
Features:
- Black bakelite square-top housing and handset
- Ribbed bakelite "beehive" base with hand-crank magneto generator and ringer
- Number card window
- Two-prong cradle
- Brown cloth-covered handset cord
It's a great piece for an art-deco or magneto telephone collection, a 1930s–40s room, or a period film set.
Sold as-is and untested. It has not been tested or refurbished, and no guarantee of function is given.
